Blog Spam From Forums

I reckon I've got someone who found out about my site through a forum spamming my blog. I've got the domain and the IP.

What would you do in this situation?

Yeah its comment refer spam.

I'd say delete it, block the IP and drive on.

I was reading something last night from the guy who wrote SpamKarma2 (the WordPress spam plugin) that makes it sound as though some spammers have spent a little time and done their homework. It appears they have figured out how to defeat spam detection software much better. Clearly this is going to be a bigger and bigger problem as more spammers realize that the nofollow attribute is being ignored by Yahoo and probably Google.

Thanks Jason. This clearly sucks.. It must be true because I've suddenly had an influx of comments from multiple blogs -these types of comments used to be filtered out.

Guess I'll just have to wait for plugin updates.

They are also getting a little better with the BS they put in their comment. But, they are still pretty spammy. If they would spend a few more minutes working on their script, I bet they would have a much higher success rate

Yeah I've had ones that say stuff like.

"Great site! Love the layout. Keep up the good work"

With their ad link to casino's and vitamins.

I have 120 spam posts and 3 "normal" ones for one of my blog entries. That quota makes you wonder. Blogspot is still the number one spam host though according to blogwise:

block the IP and any website their pushing. Use Wordpress and Akismet too.
