Adsense- A text or picture ad program where you can place ads on your blog and earn money when someone clicks on one of these ads. This program s free to join and is very common in the blogging community.
Adwords- A service that allows you to create your own ads and direct visitors to your site. This is a pay per click service. You can establish daily budgets with Adwords.
Affiliate- A partner in an agreement where you publish ads or a company’s product on your site and are paid relative to ad performance or product sales.
Algarythm- A term used when discussing the systematic process in which search engines carry out their programming.
Blog– Short for WEBLOG
Blogger-A popular and free blog hosting service
Blog-Hints- One of many free blog discussion forums
Blogspam- Generally off topic text/links that are placed in a blog comment block
Chitika- This is another ad program, similar to Adsense
CSS- Cascading Style Sheet. These are files that set a certain style that your site or parts of your site will adopt. These are useful to eliminate repetitive programming. This code will either be in your site’s HTML or contained within a separate file.
Feed- (Web Feed) Provide syndication of your blog through RSS
Google- The dominant Search Engine on the web. Also parent of Adsense and Adwords programs.
Keywords- Words webmasters and bloggers use that may identify better than other words with search engine queries.
Niche- A specific subject matter.
Ping-A signal to notify various other sites or services that your blog has been updated.
PR-(Page Rank) On a scale of 0 to 10, a measure of a web site’s importance as determined by Search Engines. It is widely debated on how PR is actually calculated.
SE- Search Engine. The more popular ones are Google, Yahoo and MSN.
SEO-Search Engine Optimization. This is the process of building your site to be Search Engine friendly.
Technoratti- One of the more popular online blogging communities.
Trackback-A link back to another blog, and sends a ping letting that blog know it has been linked to.
Traffic- The amount of visitors a site experiences within a certain period of time.
