View Full Version : I don't exchange links any more :)

I used to make sites with good content and now it pays off.

Last time I checked my backlinks, there were few links from other new sites in my niche and few links from more trustable sites as wikipedia :D

It's not only the content, but also SEO - if you managed to get your site on the first page in google for your keywords, you'll also get lots of natural links from people who create similar sites and look for links to add :)

What do you think?

I think a few won't kill you.

But having a blog with 100 exchanges on a blogroll makes you look really unprofessional.

You are correct, though. Good Content always = links.

I don't mind exchanging links with sites that have been indexed for a long time. Then I figgure I'm in good company. Also when I know the owner of the site and feel like he is not going to do anything stupid. I think some link exchanges just make sense.

Agreed, I don't think having 100 sites on your blogroll is a bad thing...most of the biggest blogs around have a ton of sites on their blogroll. That is the point of a blogroll I thought.

Here is a prime example:
http://www.designers-who-blog.com/
And she has probably 300 blogs in her role, and also great listings in all 3 search engines.
Search engines are aware of the mentality of bloggers. The MySpace "add a friend" principal applies: see a blog you like - just add it!

And it doesn't hurt that I've started to review the cream of 'Designers who blog' on Creative Latitude: Cat's Fancy: Designers who blog
http://creativelatitude.com/fancy/index.html

CL gets rather a lot of visitors ...

But the true reason for DWB is to have one place where we can find quality blogs authored by designers, no matter if they are weak in SEO. I know what the rules are supposed to be, to only trade links with those who rank higher than yourself. Well, stuff the rules :-)

For fun I use Site Meter. For serious, awstats.

awstats gets stuck for two days at times, Site Meter is instant (unless it skips). So, here I am.

ahhhh I used to do that, need to start checking mine again (still using awstats, my comfortzone)
Now I'm also using Google Analytics (http://mikedammann.blogspot.com/2005/11/free-stats-from-google.html) but hardly check those.

I'm still waiting for an invite from Google Analytics ...

wow, I forgot that they only offered it for a short period time. Would it be of any consolation that I'm not really checking mine that much :)
Awstats is just so convenient :)

Who cares if it looks unprofessional when you're in the Bahamas lying on the beach while oceans of money wash over your naked body. (I mean that metaphorically of course)
