I have always done static page content sites using Dreamweaver. Now I am trying to get my head around blogging software and am using wordpress as a starting point. I had looked at WP a few months ago and found the time dependent assumptions were not a good fit with my content. (How to rebuild the carburetor of your 1938 Ford doesn't change frequently :)

Recently I discovered www.wp-plugins.net (http://www.wp-plugins.net) where there are a thousand or more plugins to take WP in an amazing number of directions. Some are trivial or not well done, but some look very good.

Plug, Upload, and Paste makes it much more convenient to add a picture to your posting. I can make a thumbnail in the process but I wish it would let me add a link to the full size image as part of the process.

I tried the WPG2 (WordPress/Gallery2) plugin but backed away from that. Gallery 2 looks like a great product but I wonder if they have not "enhanced" it to the point where only serious coders can deal with it.

I am going to try the PopUPImageGallery next and see if will do what I need more easily.

Some plugins let you pull in PHP scripts and do other fancy things I don't have the skills to work with.

WP, is really more than a blogging platform, it is more of a complete CMS. With the emphasis that Google and Yahoo are placing on RSS feeds these days, it is really a great system to use and super flexible. Even if you use it to create a site with static pages only, it is a great way to go.

Hi,
I played around with this and found it is quite easy to get a basic system up and running- but as yet its an unfinished project - just no time. I used google maps too with a geo plug to make a map of the photos. Your right - shame it isn't just plug and play yet - but it is possible.

WP is so nice and flexible - you can use it as a blog, static style website, cms, phot website.....

Rob.
