If you sign up with any reasonable hosting company, you can simply install WordPress yourself from:
http://wordpress.org/download/
I offer my own cPanel Hosting (http://www.sixty6hosting.com/) for reasonable prices which includes Fantastico (a group of scripts) and WordPress can be installed in a few seconds using it.

A lot of people seem to go with:
ASmallOrange.com
Hostgator.com
DreamHost.com
Although Dreamhost has had a few problems of late.
Don't go with GoDaddy hosting as it doesn't support wordpress.

Try to steer away from the "One-click Wordpress install" gimics. Most of the time the hosting provider doesn't have the latest version of Wordpress. And plus it's easy enough to install on your own.

Does anyone use Godaddy anymore, or just me?

I bought two domains from godaddy but still haven't done anything with it. My husband actually knows how to build webpages but never have time to make me one so I am trying to learn it on my own
